Biography

Ignacio Duncan, born in 1997 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is an artist whose journey into visual arts was significantly influenced by photography during his youth. Throughout his teenage years, he also experimented with different materials, exploring their compositions and forms. He began with street art, particularly tag and graffiti, during his childhood and continued to expand his artistic expression.
He obtained a degree in Communication Sciences with a focus on NGOs. During his travels, he admired portraits by Phulani Liebenberg in South Africa and Phoebe Dickenson in London, contemporary artists whose work demonstrated diverse uses of oil. These experiences ignited his interest in oil painting. In 2017, he began studying portrait drawing with graphite under the guidance of Fátima Yedro, and by 2020, he started creating pencil drawings based on his own photographs.
In 2023, Ignacio traveled to Florence, Italy, to further deepen his artistic knowledge, particularly in oil portrait techniques, at the Accademia ADA. At the same time, he began working on Voices from the Sidewalks, a project that involved painting people experiencing homelessness. This series bridges his background in social communication with his artistic vision, using his craft to dignify and humanize marginalized communities.
In September 2024, Ignacio presented his latest project, Mare di Sogni, at the Gadarte Gallery in Florence. This series of eight paintings portrays semi-nude women in infinite beds, draped in fabrics, combining warm tones to evoke calm and serenity. The project reflects a poetic exploration of peace and escape amidst the chaos of daily life, inspired by one of his own poems.
